

THE WATERFOWL IN BULGARIA
The waterfowl arriving in Bulgaria passes through the migratory routes Via Pontica and Via Aristotelis. They arrive from territories situated to the north and east of Bulgaria.
The waterfowl hunting season in Bulgaria opens from October 1st to January 31st.
The following species of geese and ducks can be found presently in the country: Anser albifrons /greater white-fronted goose/, Anser anser /greylag goose/, anser fabalis /the Bean/, Anas platyrhynchos /the Mallard or wild duck/, anas crecca / Eurasian teal /, anas querquedula /garganey/, anas acute / The Pintail or Northern Pintail/, anas penelope /wigeon/, fulica atra /coot/, Tufted Duck /tufted duck /, Aythya ferina /pochard/, anas clypeata /Shoveler/
All above-listed species except for the greylag goose, the Bean and the pochard can be hunted in Bulgaria.
The Mallard (wild duck) is the most widely spread species in Bulgaria comprising 80% of the total annual shot animals.
